Nollywood actress Moyo Lawal has finally responded to the backlash she faced over skin bleaching. In a bold Instagram post, she shared pictures of her darkened skin, challenging her critics and asking if they can finally let her breathe. Moyo noted the irony of being singled out for a practice that she says most people are guilty of.
“I hope my bullies are happy now. Always bullying only me for what 90% is guilty of. Sheybi, I can breathe now,” she wrote, embracing her natural complexion and reclaiming her narrative.
At the same time, Moyo opened up about the leaked tape involving her former partner, sharing an emotional video detailing the situation. She revealed that her ex had blamed her for the tape’s release but clarified that she is now moving forward with a fresh outlook and new experiences.
The actress had previously faced harsh online criticism after the tape surfaced, with many questioning her judgment despite similar incidents involving other celebrities. She confirmed that the partner in the video was her ex-fiancé and stated that the tape was released without her consent, violating her privacy.
Moyo explained that she had been intimate with him only twice in 2022, one of which resulted in the tape, and that filming it was a mutual decision because they were planning to marry and he lived abroad.
Reactions from colleagues have been mixed. Mary Njoku criticized Nigerians for blaming victims, while Uche Maduagwu called for her suspension from the Actors Guild of Nigeria, and Prince Eke questioned her future brand endorsements. Despite the drama, Moyo Lawal appears determined to own her story and move forward on her own terms.
