A Nigerian woman living in the United Kingdom has shared the deeply personal reason she has ruled out relocating permanently to Nigeria, saying no amount of money could convince her to make the move.
During a recent interview, the Ogun State native was asked whether she would return to Nigeria for good if she were offered increasingly larger sums of money and never allowed to go back to the UK. Her response remained the same throughout the conversation.
She immediately dismissed an initial offer of £200,000, estimated at about ₦400 million, insisting that money was not enough to change her mind. Even when the amount was raised to £15 million, she maintained that she would still refuse the offer.
According to her, the decision to settle abroad was never motivated by financial gain. Instead, she said it was the painful loss of two children, whom she believes died as a result of medical negligence in Nigeria, that completely changed the direction of her life.
She revealed that both tragedies happened in Nigeria within a two year period, an experience she described as too heartbreaking to discuss in detail. While confirming where the incidents occurred, she explained that revisiting those memories still leaves her emotionally overwhelmed.
The woman also disclosed that doctors in the United Kingdom often struggle to believe her story whenever she tells them how her children died, saying they are usually shocked by what she experienced.
She further explained that her confidence in the UK healthcare system became even stronger after the birth of her son. According to her, the medical care he received made a significant difference, and she believes he might not have survived if he had been born in Nigeria.
For her, the painful memories of losing two children and the confidence she has developed in the healthcare system where she now lives remain the strongest reasons she has no intention of returning to Nigeria permanently, regardless of the financial incentive offered.
