Buratai Receives Souvenirs Ahead of Remodeled African Ambassadors Golf Tournament
Former Chief of Army Staff and League of African Ambassadors Board of Trustees member, Ambassador Lt. Gen. Tukur Y. Buratai, has received the official goodie bag and souvenirs for the upcoming League of African Ambassadors Golf Tournament.
A delegation from the Nigeria Golf Tournament Planning Committee, led by Chairman Ambassador Ben Okoyen, presented the items during a courtesy visit last Thursday. The meeting took place as preparations intensify for the two-day event scheduled for August 29 and 30, 2026, at the Ibom Golf and Country Club in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
During the visit, Okoyen highlighted Buratai’s valuable role in the League and his unifying influence within the African diplomatic community. He noted that the tournament is being held under Buratai’s auspices.
In a notable shift from previous editions, the organisers have removed the fundraising component from the tournament. According to Okoyen, this change follows a decision by the League’s Executive Committee, allowing the event to focus solely on golf, diplomacy, networking, and friendship.
The decision is expected to strengthen the tournament’s sporting identity and create a relaxed atmosphere where ambassadors, diplomats, government officials, business leaders, and friends of Africa can build relationships away from formal settings. The committee believes golf provides a unique platform for informal interactions and lasting connections.
Buratai accepted the souvenirs and expressed appreciation for the visit, showing genuine interest in the items as he examined the goodie bag. With the tournament now just days away, attention has shifted to the golf course, where the League hopes to deliver two memorable days of competitive play and diplomatic camaraderie in Uyo.
