Old students of Adeola Odutola College, Class of 1970–1974, recently turned an ordinary train ride into a heartwarming reunion aboard the Lagos–Ibadan service.
Some of them flew in from overseas just to be part of the association’s gathering. As the train rolled along the tracks, laughter, stories and memories of their school days filled the coaches. The trip offered the perfect setting for friends separated by decades and distance to reconnect.
Mr. Baba Adelayo, who coordinated the outing, explained that the idea was to bring everyone together in a relaxed way and give them time to celebrate the “good old days.” Members joined the train at different stations, including Ebute Metta and Agege, turning the journey into one long, cheerful gathering.
July and August celebrants among them were treated to songs and warm wishes right on the train, adding a festive touch to the day. For many in the group, it also felt like a quiet reflection on how much Nigeria’s railway system has changed since their youth.
The experience went beyond transport. It became a shared moment of friendship, nostalgia and pride as these senior citizens enjoyed the comfort of the modern service while remembering the rail journeys of their younger years. For the Adeola Odutola old students, the trip simply added another beautiful chapter to a bond that has now lasted over fifty years.
