MultiChoice Nigeria is moving to reassure its subscribers and partners that its integration into the Canal+ global group will not alter its commitment to the local market. Following concerns regarding the company’s ownership structure, the leadership has clarified that core operational decisions—including pricing strategies, channel packaging, and content development—continue to be managed entirely within Nigeria.
Kemi Omotosho, the Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, emphasized that the firm remains anchored to its local roots even as it navigates its new status under the French-based media giant. Since officially joining the global network in September 2025, the company has faced questions about whether its direction is now being dictated from abroad. Omotosho dismissed these concerns, maintaining that the local executive team retains the authority to make choices that align with the specific economic realities and consumer needs of the Nigerian audience.
According to Zoyols News, the company is positioning this global alignment as a strategic benefit rather than a loss of autonomy. By tapping into the vast technological resources and international experience of a network spanning over 70 countries, the local team aims to enhance its service offerings. The leadership views this as a balanced approach, where the company thinks globally to source new ideas but acts locally to implement solutions that actually resonate with Nigerians.
Ultimately, the goal is to leverage the scale of Canal+ to buffer the business against macroeconomic pressures while bolstering investments in the Nigerian creative industry. Omotosho noted that this structure allows the company to be more agile, ensuring that it can adapt quickly to local market dynamics while still benefiting from international best practices. As far as the day-to-day operations for DStv and GOtv users are concerned, the company asserts that the transition is designed to strengthen, rather than diminish, its responsiveness to the local landscape.
