Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kawu Baraje, has told governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress to prepare to leave their government houses after the 2027 elections.
Baraje expressed confidence that the PDP would make a strong comeback and regain power at different levels of government, arguing that growing dissatisfaction with the APC could work in favour of his party.
He made the remarks at Dutse International Airport while travelling to Azare, Bauchi State, where he led a delegation of PDP leaders on behalf of former Senate President Bukola Saraki to commission a 500 seat Computer Based Test and Information and Communication Technology centre donated to the community by the PDP’s 2027 governorship candidate, Adamu Usman Ahmed.
Describing APC governors as “tenants” in the government houses, Baraje accused the ruling party of failing Nigerians and said the PDP was now better positioned to reclaim power.
He attributed the PDP’s previous electoral setbacks largely to internal disagreements within the party. According to him, efforts to address those divisions have created a stronger foundation for the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Baraje recalled the 2015 and 2023 elections, saying the PDP had reservations about the results but accepted them in the interest of peace and stability.
He, however, claimed that public opinion was now turning against the APC, describing the growing demand for change as a political “revolution” that could return the PDP to power.
The former PDP chairman also praised Ahmed for investing in digital infrastructure, describing the CBT and ICT centre as an important contribution to the development of young people in Azare and beyond.
He said the facility showed that the governorship candidate understood the growing importance of technology and its role in preparing young people for present and future opportunities.
Ahmed explained that he established the centre to give students in Azare and other parts of Bauchi access to a modern environment for computer based examinations and other digital activities.
He described the facility as the first of its kind in the North East to be established through an individual initiative and said he hoped to undertake more projects if elected governor in 2027.
Ahmed also congratulated the people of Osun State on the outcome of the recent governorship election, drawing similarities between the political experiences of Osun and Bauchi.
He said Bauchi had a longstanding political tradition in which sitting governors did not necessarily determine their successors, stressing that voters ultimately decide who takes over government.
The comments come as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections, with the PDP working to rebuild its structures and mount a stronger challenge to the APC at the presidential, governorship and legislative levels.
