Families of children abducted in Borno State have renewed calls for urgent action as their loved ones mark 100 days in captivity.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the families of 42 pupils from Mussa Primary and Junior Day Secondary School in Askira-Uba said the long wait has brought them sleepless nights and deep anxiety. They also demanded the rescue of 36 students abducted in Lassa while writing their exams, as well as others taken along the Buratai Road to Maiduguri and the Chibok route.
Malla Gadzama, speaking for the Hawul/Askira-Uba Elders Forum, appealed directly to President Bola Tinubu to direct all security and intelligence resources towards securing their release. He also urged Governor Babagana Umara Zulum to work closely with federal authorities and security agencies to bring the victims home.
The families pointed to the recent rescue of abducted children and teachers in Oyo State as proof that coordinated operations can succeed. They insisted that Borno victims deserve the same level of attention and urgency, warning against allowing prolonged abductions to become normal.
They also called for better protection around schools and major roads, alongside regular updates from the government on rescue efforts. The families said 100 days is already too long and urged both the federal and state governments to treat the matter as a top priority.
