Samsung Electronics West Africa has introduced its latest foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold8 and the premium Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, to the Nigerian market, highlighting a new generation of devices built to deliver greater productivity, creativity and intelligent mobile experiences.
The launch event in Lagos showcased Samsung’s vision of smartphones that do more than handle everyday communication. With larger displays, slimmer designs, advanced camera systems and artificial intelligence deeply integrated into the user experience, the company says the new Galaxy Z series is designed to support work, entertainment and content creation with greater ease.
Speaking during the unveiling, Samsung Electronics West Africa’s Head of Mobile Experience, Joy Tim Ayoola, alongside Head of Marketing Communications, Oge Maduagwu, and Product Manager for Mobile Experience, Stephen Okwara, presented the features that set the new foldable devices apart.
Tim Ayoola said the latest Galaxy Z lineup reflects Samsung’s continued focus on innovation while giving users more options that match their personal lifestyles and productivity needs. According to her, the new series offers unique experiences tailored for entertainment, self expression and everyday efficiency.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 has been designed to combine the convenience of a smartphone with the larger workspace of a tablet. Weighing just 201 grammes, Samsung describes it as the lightest Galaxy Z Fold device it has produced so far.
When unfolded, the device reveals a spacious 4:3 display suitable for reading, streaming videos, gaming and multitasking. Folded shut, it offers a traditional smartphone experience through its 10:16 cover display for quick access to everyday tasks.
Powering the Fold8 is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, supported by a 4,800mAh battery. Samsung has also improved durability with its new Flex Titanium display technology, which strengthens the device while making the display crease less noticeable.
The Fold8 also places strong emphasis on photography and video creation. It comes equipped with dual 50 megapixel cameras and Dual Recording, allowing users to capture footage with both the front and rear cameras at the same time.
Another standout feature is My FanCam, an AI powered tool that automatically keeps subjects in focus while recording. Samsung believes this will appeal to sports lovers, event videographers and social media creators looking for smoother hands free recording.
For users seeking even greater performance, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. The premium model features an 8 inch foldable display while measuring only 4.1 millimetres when unfolded and weighing 215 grammes.
Okwara described the Fold8 Ultra as the company’s flagship smartphone experience packaged in a foldable form. The device is equipped with a 200 megapixel main camera, a 50 megapixel ultra wide camera, improved Nightography capabilities and support for 8K video recording using Samsung’s latest APV codec.
Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, the Fold8 Ultra also features a larger 5,000mAh battery, dual path 45W fast charging and an upgraded cooling system designed to maintain peak performance during demanding tasks. Samsung says the device is aimed at professionals, creators and users who require a powerful mobile workstation.
Artificial intelligence remains one of the biggest highlights of the new Galaxy Z series. Samsung has expanded Galaxy AI to take advantage of the larger foldable displays, introducing features that help users organise information, manage daily activities and improve productivity.
Among the new tools are Now Brief, which provides personalised daily updates, and Now Nudge, which offers timely suggestions during conversations. Enhanced Gemini Intelligence can perform tasks across more than 40 supported applications, while Gemini Notebook allows users to combine notes, images, documents and audio recordings into a single workspace where AI can organise content and generate summaries or reports.
Samsung says the goal is to transform the smartphone from a device that simply responds to commands into one that actively assists users by anticipating their needs.
Addressing privacy concerns surrounding artificial intelligence, Maduagwu said Samsung has strengthened security across the new devices with technologies including Samsung Knox, Personal Data Engine and Knox Vault. Users can also monitor how AI interacts with their information through the new AI Assistant Activity dashboard, which provides greater transparency and control over personal data.
Samsung confirmed that customers in Nigeria can begin pre ordering both the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra immediately. The Fold8 will be available in Graphite, Cream and Lavender, while the Fold8 Ultra comes in Graphite, Cream and Violet Shadow.
Customers who pre order the new foldable smartphones will receive a six month free trial of Google AI Pro, which includes 5TB of cloud storage. Samsung is also introducing an improved Smart Switch experience to simplify data transfers from iOS and other devices.
To provide added peace of mind, Samsung Care Plus will offer additional protection for eligible devices, with customers who purchase through Samsung’s official website receiving the first three months of coverage at no extra cost.
