Zoyols News

A cloud of grief has enveloped the Tarai community in the Jol village of Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State, following the tragic killing of three brothers from the same family. The victims, identified as Dachung Danjuma, aged 51, Victor Danjuma, aged 37, and Nyam Danjuma, aged 35, were active members of the local vigilante group. They met their untimely death late Tuesday night while volunteering to protect their neighborhood from potential threats.

According to details obtained by Zoyols News, the devastating incident occurred at approximately 10:47 p.m. The three brothers were on a routine night patrol when armed attackers ambushed them. The assailants opened fire on the local security volunteers under the cover of darkness, killing them on the spot. This fresh onslaught comes barely twenty-four hours after two security personnel were killed in the same Riyom Local Government Area.

Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, a community resident named Lyop Bitrus shared that the sudden attack threw the entire neighborhood into extreme panic, forcing many residents to flee their homes for safety. The resident lamented the heavy toll of the tragedy on the family, noting that Victor Danjuma left behind a wife and five children. The community member praised the brothers for making the ultimate sacrifice to ensure others could sleep in peace.

While confirming the unfortunate assault, the spokesperson for the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Rwang Tengwong, described the killings as deeply heartbreaking. He expressed profound concern over the persistent wave of violence targeting communities in Riyom and other parts of Plateau State, despite continuous calls for enhanced security measures. Tengwong urged formal security agencies to scale up their presence and operations to shield vulnerable communities and ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.

At the time of gathering this report, the spokespersons for the State Police Command, SP Alabo Alfred, and Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Polycarp Oteh, had not yet responded to press inquiries regarding the incident.
