Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have taken three individuals into custody following the discovery of a suspected fake Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission identity card, alongside an unregistered vehicle believed to have been stolen.
The suspects have been identified as Mohammed Umar, Mohammed Nuhu, and Ibrahim Suleiman. Officers attached to the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit intercepted the trio during a routine patrol around the Bukan Sidi area of Lafia, travelling in a Lexus IS 250 that lacked registration plates.
When questioned by the patrol team, Nuhu allegedly claimed to be an operative of the anti-graft agency and presented an identity card purportedly belonging to the commission. However, suspicion grew when Umar, who was behind the wheel, failed to give a credible or satisfactory explanation regarding the ownership of the vehicle, leading to the immediate arrest of all three occupants.
Preliminary inquiries conducted by the police revealed that the identification card presented by Nuhu was forged. During further interrogation, Nuhu claimed he only accompanied the driver from Kaduna State because Umar lacked a valid driver’s licence. Meanwhile, investigators are also looking into separate allegations linking Suleiman to a local confraternity group as part of a broader effort to unravel the full extent of their activities.
The command noted that the suspects remain in custody while comprehensive investigations are ongoing to ascertain the true ownership of the vehicle and uncover any other possible criminal links. Authorities assured that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as the inquiries are concluded.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner of Police for the Nasarawa State Command, Shetima Jauro Mohamed, reaffirmed the force’s dedication to proactive policing and intelligence-driven operations aimed at keeping criminal elements at bay across the state.
