In a move that has sent ripples through the political landscape, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has reportedly left the African Democratic Congress to join the Labour Party. This transition marks yet another significant shift for the Abia South representative, whose political journey has been defined by strategic moves and a strong connection with his constituents.
The announcement was made by Emenike Iroegbu, the Publicity Secretary for the Labour Party in Abia State. He confirmed that the veteran lawmaker has officially aligned himself with the party, signaling a fresh chapter in his long-standing legislative career.
This latest development follows a pattern of recent realignments for the senator. It was only in December of last year that Abaribe moved to the African Democratic Congress after a stint with the All Progressives Grand Alliance, under whose platform he secured his reelection during the 2023 polls. His stay in the ADC was notably brief, lasting only a few months before this jump to the Labour Party.
Senator Abaribe is currently serving a historic fifth term representing the people of Abia South Senatorial District. Over the years, he has established himself as a prominent voice in the red chamber, known for his vocal stance on national issues and his deep roots in the politics of the South East.
As of the time of this report, the senator himself has not released a formal statement to personaly address the defection. However, the confirmation from the Labour Party leadership in his home state suggests that the move is already finalized, setting the stage for new political dynamics in Abia State ahead of future electoral cycles.
