Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has declared that President Bola Tinubu is heading into the 2027 presidential race without any real threat from the opposition, insisting that rival parties are too divided and disorganised to mount a serious challenge against the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Kalu, who represents Abia North in the Senate, made the remark in his hometown of Igbere in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State during a stakeholders’ meeting attended by members of his political structures, the OUK Movement and Reality Organisation, alongside APC members in the state.
Speaking at the gathering, the former Abia State governor said the opposition had remained trapped in internal crises and had not shown any sign of being ready for the next general election. He said both President Tinubu and the APC currently stand in a strong position, arguing that the opposition has failed to put itself together well enough to pose any real electoral challenge.
Kalu also threw his weight behind the economic direction of the Tinubu administration, describing the President as a leader who is bold enough to take difficult decisions for the good of the country. According to him, the reforms introduced by the current government may not have produced all the expected results yet, but they are gradually laying the foundation for long term progress.
He admitted that Nigerians are still dealing with economic hardship at the grassroots level, but maintained that there are encouraging signs within the broader economy. In his view, while the micro side of the economy remains under pressure, the macro outlook is beginning to show improvement.
On his stewardship in the Senate, Kalu said he remains answerable to the people of Abia North and would gladly step aside whenever his constituents decide to withdraw their support. He also boasted that no senatorial district in the country has attracted more federal presence in terms of projects than Abia North.
The lawmaker pointed to road rehabilitation works, the rebuilding of schools and the distribution of uniforms and textbooks to pupils across the constituency as part of the interventions recorded under his watch. He expressed confidence in his chances of returning to the Senate and said the APC is steadily gaining strength in Abia State.
Kalu further predicted that President Tinubu would win Abia in the 2027 presidential election, even as he urged leaders of the APC in the state to handle party affairs with fairness, justice and political maturity. He warned that anything short of that could create cracks within the party and open the door to factional disputes.
He explained that the decision to bring party members together for the stakeholders’ meeting was aimed at building unity and strengthening the APC ahead of the next election cycle.
Also speaking at the meeting, former APC governorship aspirant Mascot Uzor Kalu appealed to members of the party to stay united and work together if the APC must record victory in 2027. He said his decision to step down during the party’s governorship primary last month was taken in the interest of peace and unity within the fold.
Mascot urged party members to rally behind President Tinubu’s re election bid and deliver support for all APC candidates in Abia during the 2027 general election.
Other speakers at the meeting, including George Nnanna Kalu and Uche Ogboso, praised Senator Kalu for what they described as effective representation and pledged their backing for his return to the Senate.
