Nollywood actor Kunle Afod has continued to mourn the passing of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Adeshina, fondly known as Elegbeje Ado, by sharing an emotional memory of one of their encounters.
The respected movie star died on Monday, June 29, 2026, following a brief illness, leaving many colleagues and fans in the Yoruba film industry grieving the loss of one of its most admired performers.
As part of his tribute, Kunle Afod shared a video capturing the first time he visited the late actor after many years apart. Reflecting on the moment, he expressed sadness over the reality of life and prayed for the peaceful repose of the veteran’s soul.
He wrote that it was his first visit to Baba Elegbeje Ado after not seeing him for many years, adding that life is truly unpredictable before praying that the late actor rests in peace.
Elegbeje Ado built a remarkable career in the Yoruba movie industry and earned the respect of colleagues and audiences through his outstanding performances. His dedication to indigenous filmmaking helped shape the growth of Yoruba cinema, while his memorable roles secured him a lasting place in the hearts of movie lovers.
His death comes only a few days after the passing of veteran actor Kola Oyewo, who died at the age of 80.
Kunle Afod was also among the first to announce Oyewo’s death. Paying tribute at the time, he described the late actor as a true legend whose remarkable talent and lasting contributions to Nigerian theatre and the film industry would continue to inspire future generations.
Over the years, Kunle Afod has become widely recognised for his unwavering support for veteran actors, many of whom have benefited from his visits, encouragement and fundraising efforts.
Not long before the death of Kola Oyewo, the actor received praise from colleagues after paying courtesy visits to veteran actors Kola Oyewo and Peter Fatomilola, where he spent time with them and honoured their contributions to the industry.
Speaking on his commitment to older actors some time ago, Kunle Afod explained that helping veterans gives him genuine happiness. He said everyone would eventually grow old, adding that the support he offers today is the kind of legacy he hopes younger generations will continue in the future.
His compassion has repeatedly earned admiration from fans and colleagues alike. Last year, he successfully raised more than 600,000 naira for veteran actor Baba Ariyo after visiting the house where the actor had lived as a tenant for four decades. The emotional video he shared about the veteran’s living condition touched many people and inspired financial support.
Kunle Afod also paid a condolence visit to veteran actor Tunbosun Odunsi following the death of his wife. He later shared a video from the emotional visit to Ibadan, a gesture that moved many of his followers and highlighted his continued respect for senior figures in the Nigerian film industry.
