Tinubu Hails Flamingos After World Cup Final Qualification

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria’s under 17 women’s team, the Flamingos, after their 2026 FIFA U 17 Women’s World Cup semi final victory over Brazil in Morocco.

Tinubu described the team’s place in the final as a major achievement that had brought pride and joy to Nigerians at home and abroad. He also praised the coaches and everyone whose work and support helped the team reach the final.

In a statement released on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President encouraged the players to stay focused and confident as they prepare to face Japan. He said Nigerians would be backing them.

“I encourage you to approach the final with the same fighting spirit and belief that have brought you this far. I have confidence in your ability to make history by winning the coveted world title,” Tinubu said.

He urged Nigerians to rally behind the young players, calling them worthy ambassadors whose success highlights the country’s sporting talent and inspires girls to pursue their ambitions.

“Once again, Nigeria is proud of you. Go for the trophy, Flamingos!” he added.
