Two Feared Killed, 20 Reportedly Abducted in Kaduna Community Attack
Two people were reportedly killed and 20 abducted when suspected terrorists attacked Akwando community in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Wednesday.
The attack is said to have happened around midday. The police had not confirmed the incident as of Thursday, when details were provided by the Kuturmi Unity Development Association (KUDA).
In a statement, KUDA President Dr Joseph Ariko and Publicity Secretary Manasseh Samuel Akwando said the latest violence had deepened concerns over repeated killings and abductions in Kuturmi communities. They noted that residents were still dealing with the aftermath of an Easter Sunday attack on Ariko.
The 20 people named by the association as abducted are Usman Galadima, La’a’zarus Genesis, Madalin Markus, Happy Stephen, Lovet Ishaya, Afiniki Irimeya, Amina Ahmadu, Miracle Genesis, Hellen Irimeya, Musa Genesis, Janet Irimeya, Gloria Markus, Zila Stephen, Alis Ahmadu, Haske Ahmadu, Great Isiac, Hanatu Irimeya, Desmon Ishaya, Siam Shagari and Nansy Genesis.
KUDA also recalled that five people were reportedly killed at the scene of the Easter Sunday attack on Ariko, while another 17 later died in captivity.
The association raised concerns about a separate attack on Awon, where two people were reportedly killed and 11 abducted. It said five of those abducted were released on November 3, 2026, but one died the following day. Another victim reportedly escaped, while five others died in captivity.
According to KUDA, the repeated attacks have spread fear and forced some residents to leave their homes and farmlands. The association also alleged that armed groups had prevented people from accessing ancestral land and farming freely, in some cases demanding payments before residents could cultivate their farms or harvest crops.
KUDA stressed that these claims had not been established and called for independent investigations. It said authorities should determine the circumstances of the attacks, identify any patterns and decide on appropriate legal and security measures.
The association urged the Federal and Kaduna State governments, along with the Kachia Local Government Council, to deploy adequately equipped security personnel to Akwando, Ariko, Awon and other at-risk communities. It also called for coordinated efforts to secure the release of the 20 people reportedly abducted in Akwando and others still being held.
Its further demands include permanent security posts, regular patrols, early-warning systems, prosecution of those responsible and humanitarian support for affected families, survivors and displaced residents.
KUDA appealed to President Bola Tinubu, Governor Uba Sani, the National Security Adviser, the Inspector-General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff to treat the situation as an urgent security and humanitarian matter.
The Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, had not responded to calls or a text message seeking comment by the time this report was filed.
“Our communities cannot continue to experience recurring attacks, lose their loved ones, endure the abduction of family members, abandon their farmlands and face uncertainty over the safety of their ancestral settlements,” the association said.
