The Christian community is mourning the loss of a spiritual giant, Reverend Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed away on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80. President Bola Tinubu and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have paid tribute to the late evangelist, describing him as a towering figure in the Nigerian Church.

Reverend Dr. Ukpai’s ministry spanned over six decades, touching millions of lives through his crusades, teachings, and charitable works. He was a firebrand for the gospel, dedicated to uniting the Christian fold and spreading peace and harmony. President Tinubu praised Dr. Ukpai’s selfless service, saying, “Reverend Ukpai was not just another preacher; he was an anointed crusader of the faith, filled with fire and ice for the gospel and restoring humanity to discipline, love, and good neighbourliness.” CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh described him as “a towering figure in the Church in Nigeria” who devoted his life to preaching the gospel and nurturing faith.

He was a social reformer, education advocate, and philanthropist who championed causes such as youth empowerment, healthcare, and education.
