Yobe IPAC Removes Chairman and Secretary Amid Allegations

Yobe IPAC Removes Chairman and Secretary

The Inter Party Advisory Council in Yobe State has removed its chairman, Umaru Jajere, and secretary, Mustapha Gado, following allegations of mismanagement and a lack of transparency.

The decision was announced after an emergency meeting on Thursday at the council’s secretariat in Damaturu. In a statement signed by Acting Secretary Habiba Umaru, IPAC said members had lost confidence in the two officials, accusing them of making key decisions without consulting member parties and failing to hold regular executive and general assembly meetings.

The council also alleged that its name had been used to receive quarterly palliatives from the North East Development Commission and other organisations without the knowledge or involvement of member parties. It further accused the former leaders of mishandling resources and representing the council without proper authorisation.

IPAC has directed Jajere and Gado to stop acting on its behalf and hand over all official documents, records and property in their possession. Jajere is a member of the Action Peoples Party, while Gado belongs to the Action Democratic Party.

Mukhtar Audu Hassan of the All Progressives Congress has been named acting chairman, while Umaru of the Young Progressives Party will serve as acting secretary. The appointments took effect immediately and will remain in place until further notice and fresh elections are held in accordance with the council’s constitution.

Hassan said the new leadership would work to improve transparency, inclusion and accountability, and urged member parties to support the transition. Umaru said IPAC would cooperate with the Independent National Electoral Commission, the state government, security agencies and the media to promote peaceful political activities and credible elections.

The council has asked its national secretariat and relevant stakeholders to recognise the acting leadership, and urged them to disregard anyone else claiming to hold the positions.
