Nigeria Still Has Over 4.8 Million Unmetered Electricity Customers

Electricity distribution companies across Nigeria installed about 308,000 new meters between May and June 2026. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission says this has pushed the total number of metered customers to roughly 7.74 million.

Active customers now stand at 12.59 million. This leaves approximately 4.85 million customers still without meters and receiving estimated bills.

Eko Disco leads with an 88.7% metering rate, followed by Ikeja Electric at 87.91%. Abuja Disco sits at 81.38%. The government continues to push its metering initiative with support from the World Bank and other partners to close the gap and end estimated billing.
