Residents in several parts of the Federal Capital Territory will experience a temporary blackout this weekend following a scheduled maintenance exercise by the Transmission Company of Nigeria. The planned service disruption is expected to affect several prominent neighborhoods across Abuja for most of the daytime hours on Saturday.
According to official correspondence obtained by Zoyols News, the maintenance team will be carrying out critical preventive work on a major 100MVA transformer and its auxiliary components at the Katampe Transmission Substation. The exercise is scheduled to run between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm, during which the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company will be unable to receive bulk power to distribute to consumers in the affected corridors.
Families and businesses located within Maitama, Mpape, Jahi, and Life Camp should expect a pause in their electricity supply while the work is ongoing. The outage will also impact the Kado axis down to the Fish Market, as well as the Idu-Karmo neighborhood and its surrounding communities.
The transmission company explained that the seven-hour intervention is vital for preserving the integrity of the power infrastructure and preventing sudden equipment failure down the line. While expressing regret over the downtime, the utility firm urged residents to cooperate and bear with the situation, reiterating that regular technical upgrades are necessary to guarantee a more stable and efficient power supply in the long run.
