Nollywood actor Afeez Owo has shared heartfelt words about his wife, Mide Martins, after social media users praised the couple for staying away from controversies that often trail celebrities.
The conversation started when a user on X described Afeez and Mide as the most unproblematic Yoruba actors in the industry. According to the post, the couple have managed to keep their relationship free from unnecessary drama while continuing to support each other publicly.
The user wrote that Mide Martins and her husband are definitely among the most unproblematic Yoruba actors, adding that they simply enjoy doing life together without attracting negative attention.
Another social media user also applauded the pair, expressing confidence that one day they would receive the recognition they truly deserve for their immense contributions to the Nigerian movie industry.
Responding to the admiration from fans, Afeez Owo openly celebrated his wife with touching words that reflected the depth of their bond. He described Mide as his partner, playmate, friend, best friend, backbone, pillar, angel, sugar, honey and everything to him.
Just a day earlier, the actor had stirred emotions online after declaring that if given another chance at life, he would still choose to marry Mide Martins.
Speaking in a recent interview about their more than two decades together, Afeez opened up about the realities of their marriage. He revealed that their relationship does not follow the traditional belief that a husband must always be strict or that a wife should remain silent. Instead, they have built a union based on understanding and mutual respect. He also expressed gratitude to Mide for her patience and for standing by him through the years.
The actor had previously addressed the separation rumours that surrounded their marriage in 2016. According to him, it was the only major crisis they had experienced since getting married. He admitted that he mishandled the situation and allowed things to spiral out of control. Afeez noted that the involvement of social media worsened what could have been resolved privately between them. Thankfully, they found their way back to each other and emerged stronger from the experience.
Afeez Owo and Mide Martins tied the knot in 2005 and are blessed with two children.
During the period of the 2016 controversy, Mide had publicly accused her husband of moving out of their home and abandoning her and their children. However, Afeez later denied the allegation during an interview, claiming that his wife had acted on advice from certain friends whose intentions were not in the best interest of their family.
Despite the challenges they have faced over the years, the couple have continued to show support for one another. In December, while receiving the Best Actress of the Year award from OAFP, Mide Martins emotionally acknowledged her husband’s unwavering support. She knelt in appreciation as she thanked Afeez for constantly standing by her side, especially following the loss of her mother.
She noted that his presence and encouragement had played a significant role in her journey, adding that without him, she would not be the woman she has become today.
