Anambra: Troops smash kidnappers’ den, rescue 3 victims

Zoyols News
Security forces in Anambra State have successfully dismantled a major criminal hideout, rescuing three individuals who had been held captive by a suspected kidnapping syndicate.
The successful raid was spearheaded by troops attached to the 185 Battalion, operating under Operation Udoka, who worked hand in hand with the Anambra Vigilante Group. The joint security team swung into action following the abduction of the three victims around the Osakwa general area within the Ihiala Local Government Area.
The breakthrough came after a swift tactical operation on October 1, 2026, which led to the arrest of a key suspect, Sunday Obi. Intense interrogation of the arrested suspect provided security operatives with the vital intelligence needed to locate the syndicate’s operational base, tucked away in the Abator community of Ogbaru Local Government Area, just across the Isieke waterside.
Deploying canoes to navigate the waterways, the combined team of soldiers and local vigilantes crossed over to storm the isolated camp. Upon arrival, they engaged the armed outlaws in a fierce exchange, ultimately overwhelming them with superior firepower and forcing the criminals to flee into the surrounding terrain with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.
A thorough combing of the abandoned camp yielded a massive haul of weapons and operational equipment. Security personnel recovered two AK-47 rifles complete with magazines, three pump-action guns, three locally made Dane guns, 62 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and 149 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Beyond firearms, the troops discovered two live cartridges alongside raw materials suspected to be earmarked for manufacturing improvised explosive devices.
Investigators also seized several logistics and communication gadgets from the hideout, including a solar generator, a power bank, a car battery, a pair of motorcycle batteries, two solar panels, and two mobile phones. Defense authorities noted that these recovered items offer critical insight into the supply chains and logistical framework supporting criminal networks in that axis, providing a roadmap for subsequent security sweeps.
Military authorities have reiterated their commitment to sustaining aggressive kinetic and intelligence-led onslaughts under Operation Udoka to completely flush criminal elements out of the South-East region. Follow-up operations are already active to track down the fleeing syndicate members, their collaborators, and logistics sponsors. Security agencies have equally urged residents to continue cooperating by sharing timely information to safeguard communities across the region.
