The story of Olusegun Enitan Dada is a masterclass in how curiosity, when paired with sheer grit, can rewrite a person’s destiny. Long before he became the force behind ITH Holdings, a multi-company tech conglomerate, he was just a young boy in Lagos fascinated by the world around him. Whether it was watching how a satellite dish pulled signals from the sky or wondering how an arcade console processed a “Street Fighter” command the instant a button was pressed, Dada was always hunting for the “why” behind the machine.
That early fascination evolved into what he calls “systems thinking.” He realized early on that while gadgets are flashy, the real power lies in the structure—the invisible architecture that makes everything run. This mindset became his greatest asset when his formal education didn’t go exactly as planned.
Dada had his heart set on studying Computer Engineering at the University of Lagos, but he missed the cutoff mark by a hair. Instead of giving up on tech, he accepted an offer to study Technology Education. While his degree was in one field, he spent his university years building a parallel career in another. He took his allowance to pay for expensive IT certifications and trekked long distances to attend training sessions in an era before YouTube or LinkedIn Learning existed.
The road wasn’t easy. During his industrial training (SIWES) period, he was repeatedly rejected by top IT firms in Victoria Island. Despite his professional certifications, these companies saw only his “Technology Education” degree and closed their doors. In a move that surprised many, he even turned down a high-paying job offer during this time because he knew it would distract him from his long-term goal of mastery. He chose to stay in school, finish his IT placement within the university, and continue his self-taught journey.
Dada didn’t just learn tech; he started building institutions while still a student. With the help of a supportive course adviser, he turned a department space into a training hub, teaching his fellow students professional IT skills. This campus initiative eventually grew into IT Horizons, which he registered in 2009. By 2012, it was a full-fledged limited liability company. In a poetic turn of events, he eventually worked as a senior consultant for some of the very same firms that had rejected him years earlier as an intern.
Today, his reach extends far beyond networking. IT Horizons has birthed other successful entities, including Zoja Technologies and the digital finance platform, Zojapay. Dada has intentionally built these companies with independent leadership teams, focusing on strategic oversight rather than micromanagement. His goal isn’t just to run a business but to build institutions that will outlive him.
In his personal life, technology remains a tool for clarity. He uses advanced dashboards to monitor everything from cloud infrastructure to financial trade lines. Even his home is a “system,” equipped with smart monitoring that alerts him to any abnormality. To him, technology is about reducing uncertainty and creating measurable value.
Looking at the bigger picture, Dada is focused on building what he calls Africa’s “financial operating system” through Zojapay. He envisions a future where payments, subscriptions, and services converge into one seamless infrastructure. While building in Nigeria presents unique challenges like currency volatility and talent retention—he remains optimistic about the continent’s potential. He believes Africa is moving toward a system-led future where our massive population will eventually define new global standards in technology.
