The Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji, has firmly rejected recent online claims alleging that his office was involved in the misappropriation of the Frontier Exploration Fund. The reports, which circulated widely on various digital platforms, suggested that $279 million had been illicitly transferred from the fund’s accounts with his knowledge.
Adedeji labeled the allegations as a calculated campaign of misinformation, dismissing them as sponsored fabrications. He characterized the narrative as the work of individuals aiming to damage both his personal reputation and the integrity of the institution he leads. According to him, the uniform style and tone found across multiple platforms suggest a coordinated effort by detractors to malign high-performing officials within the current administration.
Adedeji further pointed out that the claims reveal a fundamental misunderstanding of the legal and operational framework governing the Frontier Exploration Fund. He emphasized that the fund was established under the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act of 2021 specifically to drive exploration in basins where commercial viability has not yet been fully realized.
These areas, which include the Benue Trough, Chad, Sokoto, Bida, Anambra, and Dahomey Basins, rely on this dedicated financing for essential geological work. This encompasses critical activities such as seismic surveys, geological mapping, and exploratory drilling. By highlighting these technical realities, the chairman underscored that the nature of the fund’s expenditure is strictly regulated, rendering the allegations of a haphazard, multi-million dollar transfer both legally and logistically baseless.
