Ghanaian traditional spiritualist Nana Kwaku Bonsam has sparked controversy ahead of the World Cup clash between Ghana and England after claiming he intends to place a spiritual curse on England captain Harry Kane.
England are set to face Ghana on Tuesday in a decisive group stage encounter, with Thomas Tuchel’s side aiming to secure qualification for the knockout rounds following their impressive opening win over Croatia.
Kane, who scored twice in that match, has been singled out by Bonsam as the player he hopes to neutralise as Ghana look to strengthen their chances in the tournament.
The self styled spiritualist, who says he operates from the Kofi Oo Kofi shrine, insisted he is not calling for injury but believes his spiritual practices could limit Kane’s impact on the pitch.
He claimed his efforts are aimed at helping Ghana secure a positive result, adding that he has carried out similar spiritual interventions in the past.
Bonsam has previously linked himself to events involving Cristiano Ronaldo during the 2014 World Cup, where the Portuguese star missed Ghana’s group match due to injury concerns.
Despite the bold claims, Harry Kane remains focused on breaking records, needing just one more World Cup goal to surpass Gary Lineker as England’s highest scorer in the competition.
On the pitch, England continue to draw praise for their strong start under manager Thomas Tuchel, particularly after a dominant second half performance against Croatia that has boosted expectations around the team.
Defender Djed Spence has also spoken positively about the squad’s atmosphere and Tuchel’s demanding approach, describing the manager as detail oriented and highly focused on maintaining elite standards.
