Federal Government Takes Action to Protect Farms and Investors

Zoyols News

Nigeria is pulling out all the stops to protect its agricultural sector from the grips of insecurity, sealing a strategic deal aimed at safeguarding massive farming investments. Under this new arrangement, multibillion-dollar soybean and sugarcane ventures tucked away in Yobe and Jigawa states are getting a much-needed security blanket designed to draw in wary investors.

The agreement materialized in Abuja through a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Ministry of Finance Incorporated, Integranium Holdings, and the Defence Agricultural Assets and Projects Development Company, with strong backing from the Defence Holding Company Limited.

Speaking at the signing, Dr. Femi Ogunseinde, who handles investments for the Ministry of Finance Incorporated, made it clear that capital cannot flow without safety nets. Pointing to the large-scale soybean footprint in Yobe and the sprawling sugarcane project in Jigawa, he emphasized that providing a solid security anchor is non-negotiable for anyone putting money on the line. According to him, this partnership creates a reliable framework to convince investors that their capital is protected from external threats.

Echoing similar sentiments, the head of the Ministry of Finance Incorporated, Dr. Armstrong Takang, stressed that Nigeria must harness its vast land, water, and human capital more effectively. He noted that the ultimate goal goes beyond feeding households and supplying local industries, stretching toward surplus production meant for export markets. The collaboration aims to package these agricultural prospects into bankable ventures that easily appeal to both public and private financiers.

On the security and operational front, Aliyu Abdulhameed, who leads the Defence Agricultural Assets and Projects Development Company, explained that the military establishment’s primary duty is ensuring funds safely reach rural farming hubs through structured frameworks. He also pointed out that host communities will have a stake in the projects, with deliberate provisions made to include active military personnel and veterans.

Highlighting the sheer scale of potential ahead, Ogunseinde noted that roughly thirty to thirty-five million hectares of land could potentially open up for cultivation, offering immense room for massive agricultural expansion. The partners have already pinpointed several promising areas, with expectations that at least one initiative will break ground before the year runs out, though specific timelines remain tightly under wraps.

Adding weight to the coalition, Air Vice Marshal A.V. Ndache, leading the Defence Holding Company Limited, described the pact as a sweeping framework that extends well beyond farming into hospitality and other lucrative economic sectors.
