The event, held at the M.O. Arena, brought together taekwondo enthusiasts and athletes to celebrate the Korean martial art. Although the championship featured several competitive bouts, Kukkiwon’s impressive exhibition quickly became one of the major highlights of the tournament.
The team thrilled the crowd with high flying kicks, powerful strikes, carefully coordinated routines and daring acrobatic displays. Their remarkable performance added an international touch to the competition while giving young Nigerian athletes an opportunity to witness the level of skill, discipline and dedication required to excel in taekwondo.
South Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Yo-an Jeong, used the occasion to encourage young Nigerians to embrace discipline, courage, perseverance and self confidence.
He explained that taekwondo is more than a physical activity, stressing that the martial art teaches important values that can help young people face challenges, develop confidence and become responsible members of society.
Beyond the excitement generated by the demonstration team, the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation also recognised the Nigerian Navy team for its outstanding conduct throughout the competition.
The federation’s president, Tayo Popoola, praised the Navy athletes for their discipline and sportsmanship, which earned them the Most Disciplined Team Award.
Popoola said the team’s recognition came as no surprise, given the exemplary behaviour its members displayed during the tournament. He congratulated the athletes and encouraged them to maintain the same high standards in future competitions.
The 2026 Korean Ambassador’s Cup provided an opportunity to celebrate taekwondo not only as a competitive sport but also as a platform for promoting discipline, respect, confidence and positive values among young people.
The presence of the Kukkiwon team further strengthened the international appeal of the event, leaving spectators with a memorable showcase of the skill and dedication that have helped taekwondo gain recognition around the world.
