The Peoples Democratic Party has hit back at the ruling All Progressives Congress, dismissing recent attempts to pin the country’s biting economic hardship and widespread hunger on past administrations.
The political exchange follows comments made by the APC publicity secretary during a morning appearance on News Central Breakfast Show, where he laid the blame squarely on the opposition’s historical record. Similar sentiments were reportedly echoed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Kaduna during the kickoff of his 2027 re-election campaign.
Responding through a statement issued by its national publicity secretary, Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, the opposition party accused the government of trying to dodge accountability and divert public attention from daily struggles. The party argued that dwelling on the past will not put food on the table or stabilize the economy.
Rather than engaging in political shadowboxing, the ruling party should focus on tangible solutions, Citizens want to see clear plans for making food affordable, supporting local farmers, boosting electricity supply, creating jobs, curbing soaring transportation costs, and restoring the purchasing power of everyday people.
While the opposition conceded that the current administration has notched up a few wins here and there, it drew a firm line against using its own sixteen-year tenure as a blanket excuse for ongoing failures. Acknowledging government progress where it exists does not mean signing off on bad policies or letting leaders off the hook for present realities, the party noted.
History offers context, but it cannot become a permanent shield against accountability. Every government must ultimately stand or fall on its own choices, decisions, and the actual living conditions of the citizens it swore to protect. The message from the opposition camp is clear: excuses will not feed a hungry nation, and the time for concrete action is long overdue.
