The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, has expressed deep satisfaction following a successful military operation that led to the rescue of approximately 70 people previously held by kidnappers. The mission, which spanned various parts of the state, has been hailed as a significant victory for local security forces and a major step toward restoring peace in troubled regions.
In a statement released on Sunday through the Assembly’s media directorate and shared with Zoyols Blog, the Speaker specifically praised the Nigerian Army for its leadership during the raid. He also extended his gratitude to the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security operatives, noting that their seamless collaboration was the driving force behind the success recorded in the Mariga Local Government Area and across the Niger North Senatorial District.
Beyond the rescue of the victims, the operation reportedly resulted in the neutralization of several bandits and the arrest of suspected criminals who have been terrorizing the area. Sarkin-Daji described the outcome as a massive relief for rural communities that have long lived under the shadow of constant attacks and abductions. He noted that the bravery shown by the troops has gone a long way in restoring the confidence of residents who had begun to lose hope.
According to the Speaker, this recent breakthrough is a clear sign of a renewed and more aggressive commitment by security agencies to wipe out banditry in Niger State. He assured the military and other personnel that the state government remains fully behind them and will continue to provide the necessary support to strengthen security architecture across all local government areas.
While celebrating the return of the 70 citizens, Sarkin-Daji also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and law-abiding. He encouraged residents to assist the authorities by providing timely and accurate information, stressing that community cooperation is the most effective way to prevent future crimes and maintain lasting peace in the state.
