The Plateau State Police Command has taken decisive action following a tragic attack on the Nding community in the Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area. In response to the late-night violence that claimed two lives and left three others wounded, additional security forces have been moved into the area to secure flashpoints and prevent any further escalation.
The incident unfolded late Tuesday night when unidentified gunmen moved into the community and opened fire on residents. The victims, which included four women and a young boy, were reportedly targeted while sitting outside their homes. While two of the residents lost their lives in the assault, three others survived with various injuries and are currently being treated at the General Hospital.
The Commissioner of Police for the state, CP Bassey Ewah, has expressed deep sorrow over the event, describing the violence as both senseless and highly unfortunate. In a formal communication released through the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, the Commissioner extended his condolences to the grieving families and the people of Nding Susut. He noted that a specialized team led by the Divisional Police Officer was dispatched to the scene immediately after the report came in, successfully bringing the immediate situation under control.
To ensure the safety of the residents and restore a sense of calm, the police chief has directed the deployment of tactical teams and mobile police units to the region. This reinforced presence is intended to ramp up patrols and improve intelligence gathering, allowing for a much faster response to any potential threats.
The Command is currently working hand-in-hand with other security agencies and local community leaders to track down the individuals behind the attack. Investigations are already in full swing as officials move to identify and arrest the perpetrators. Commissioner Ewah has reassured the public of the police’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to stay calm and provide any credible information that could lead to a breakthrough in the case.
