Revolut secures full banking license to launch official UK operations

Zoyols

Revolut has officially crossed a major threshold in its growth story, transitioning from a popular fintech app into a fully-fledged UK bank. Following the green light from the Prudential Regulation Authority to exit its mobilization phase, the company is now rolling out its new banking entity, Revolut Bank UK Ltd, to its massive user base of 13 million people across the country.

This transition brings significant perks for customers, most notably the security of deposit protection under the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. For the firm, the new banking license is a game-changer; it effectively removes the boundaries that previously kept it tethered to basic payment and e-money services, opening the door for a wider suite of financial products, including various forms of credit and lending.

The rollout is being handled with care to ensure system stability. The company is starting with a limited group of new customers before gradually widening the net. Existing users will not see their service interrupted, as the firm plans to migrate them over to the new banking structure in organized phases throughout the coming months.

For co-founder and CEO Nik Storonsky, this milestone represents a long-held strategic dream. He noted that the UK remains the heartbeat of the company’s global operations, serving as the launchpad for their wider ambitions. This development is backed by a massive commitment to the local economy, as Revolut has pledged to invest three billion pounds into the UK while creating 1,000 high-skilled roles.

This launch is just one piece of a much larger, global puzzle. The fintech giant has set its sights on an aggressive expansion strategy, aiming to funnel ten billion pounds into global operations and enter 30 new international markets by 2030. As Revolut moves into this next chapter, the focus is clearly shifting from purely digital disruption to becoming a permanent, regulated fixture in the traditional banking landscape.
