UK Names Vicky Seymour as New Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria

The United Kingdom has officially named Vicky Seymour as the new Deputy High Commissioner in Abuja. She steps into this significant role to succeed Gill Lever, who concluded her diplomatic tenure in Nigeria this past June.

Ms. Seymour has already arrived in Abuja to begin her work, which aims to deepen the bilateral partnership between the two nations. Her focus will be wide-ranging, covering key areas such as economic expansion, national security, migration policy, and international development. According to information reaching Zoyols News, she is also expected to cultivate stronger ties between the citizens of both countries.

She enters this position with an extensive background spanning over twenty years in diplomacy, government, and international development. Her most recent assignment saw her leading the East Africa Department at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office since 2023. Her track record includes high-level leadership roles in Mozambique, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, alongside significant experience working in Afghanistan.

Before transitioning into the civil service, Ms. Seymour built a foundation in the non-profit sector, specifically addressing migration issues. Her previous career also highlights a deep involvement in policy areas ranging from climate action to security and economic development.

Expressing her enthusiasm for the new assignment, Ms. Seymour noted that she is eager to engage with Nigeria’s diverse communities. She stated that she looks forward to experiencing the country firsthand and building upon the established partnership. Her goal is to foster greater collaboration and create lasting opportunities that will benefit both the British and Nigerian people in the coming years.
