Very Dark Man has publicly expressed disappointment over an alleged online conversation involving the Ooni of Ife and socialite King Mitchy, a situation that has continued to stir online debate. The drama began after tensions between VDM and Mitchy escalated following her criticism of his school renovation campaign. She had claimed she also renovated a school within six days and challenged him to donate ₦50 million for the renovation of four schools, a challenge that further fueled their online feud. The social media personality later alleged that her business page was affected during the dispute, while also accusing him of questioning how she financed her business and making personal remarks about her behavior.
To defend her position, Mitchy shared a WhatsApp screenshot allegedly showing a conversation with the monarch, where he reportedly encouraged her social media activities. In the message, the Ooni was said to have commended her for the positive work she was doing online and requested a convenient time to talk further. The post quickly gained attention, with many people debating the authenticity and implications of the message. Zoyols observed that the situation quickly turned into a wider conversation about respect for traditional authority and social media influence.
Reacting sharply, VDM questioned what he described as an ironic situation, arguing that while he would bow to greet the Ooni in person as a sign of respect, the monarch appeared to be engaging in a way he felt was too informal. He also claimed Mitchy’s actions were disrespectful to the royal institution, adding that such behaviour could encourage others to treat authority figures casually. He made comparisons with other traditional leaders, praising the dignity of the late Alaafin of Oyo and expressing confidence in the cultural prestige associated with such royal institutions.
Over time, VDM has built a reputation for speaking out on social and economic issues affecting Nigerians. He has repeatedly called out celebrities, pastors, and online influencers over what he describes as fraudulent promotions and dishonest business practices. He once claimed responsibility for pushing back against a popular anonymous blog, boasting about standing firm against online negativity while insisting that his activism is driven by a desire to protect ordinary people from financial scams. Despite the controversies surrounding him, several celebrities have publicly supported his activism, especially during his previous detention, where personalities like Rita Edochie, Davido, Cubana Chief Priest, and others called for his release, arguing that his voice represents many young Nigerians who feel unheard.
