Twelve secondary schools from across Nigeria are set to compete for top honours at the 26th Milo National School Basketball Championship, which begins on June 27 at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
Among the schools contesting in the boys category are Government Secondary School, Karu, Federal Capital Territory, David Hall International College, Lagos, Father O’Connell Science College, Niger State, King Amachree Academy, Rivers State, Family Support Programme Secondary School, Katsina State, and Urhobo College, Delta State.
The girls category will feature Lanreleke Academy from Osun State, St. Jude Girls Secondary School, Bayelsa State, Government Secondary School, Benue State, Ado Grammar School, Ekiti State, Urhobo College, Delta State, and Government Girls College, Bauchi State.
Speaking ahead of the national finals, the Managing Director of Nestlé Nigeria, Boladale Odunlami, said the championship has continued to create valuable opportunities for young Nigerians since it was established.
According to Odunlami, the competition was created to provide students with a platform to discover and develop their sporting talents while building confidence, discipline, and other qualities that will help them succeed both on the basketball court and in everyday life.
He noted that the championship has grown into one of Nigeria’s most respected school sports competitions, bringing together talented young athletes, schools, coaches, teachers, and families from different parts of the country.
Also speaking, Nestlé Nigeria’s Category Manager for Beverages, Gilbert Tweneboah Koduah, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting the growth of young people through sports, adding that the organisation remains dedicated to creating opportunities that inspire the next generation of athletes.
