Zoyols News

A 16 year old boy, Favour Ayogu, who was allegedly abducted in Igboeze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, has been rescued near a security checkpoint in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The teenager was reportedly abandoned by his suspected abductors after security operatives intercepted their vehicle and pursued them. He was found near Ekene Junction along Oguta Road, Onitsha.

The Anambra State Police Command said the rescue was carried out during a joint security operation on Sunday night, September 13, 2026.

According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, a joint patrol team at Ekene Junction noticed the boy after unidentified persons allegedly dropped him from a black Toyota Highlander SUV close to the checkpoint.

The operatives quickly moved in, rescued the teenager and prevented him from suffering further harm. The suspects, however, reportedly escaped from the scene.

Police authorities have since intensified surveillance and intelligence led operations aimed at identifying and arresting those behind the alleged abduction.

The command also appealed to residents, particularly those in Igboeze South and Ibagwa Aka in Enugu State, who may have information about the boy or his family, to contact the nearest police station or the Anambra State Police Command.

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Ama, commended the joint patrol team for its vigilance and professionalism during the operation.

Ama directed officers to maintain intelligence led patrols, strategic checkpoints and coordinated security operations across the state.

The police assured residents and visitors that efforts would continue to protect lives and property, respond quickly to distress calls and prevent criminal groups from using Anambra as a safe haven.

As of the time of filing this report, the police had not confirmed any arrest in connection with the alleged abduction.
