Preparation for the highly anticipated 2026 Sportsville Awards has reached a fever pitch as the customized plaques for this year’s honorees officially arrived in Lagos. With only 20 days left until the big night, the appearance of these professionally inscribed, glittering gold awards marks a significant milestone in the countdown to the ceremony. The unique design of the plaques is intended to reflect the prestige and exclusivity of the event.
Frank Ilaboya, the Chief Executive Officer of Sportsville, expressed his excitement over the weekend regarding the readiness of the awards committee. He noted that having the trophies on ground nearly three weeks early allows the team to focus on the final touches of the production. He emphasized that these awards are custom-built specifically for this occasion and cannot be found anywhere else, as the goal is to provide recipients with something truly distinguished to display on their shelves.
The guest list for the March 28 event is also shaping up to be a gathering of sporting royalty. Former Green Eagles captain, Dr. Segun Odegbami, MON, has officially confirmed he will be in attendance. The legendary footballer, affectionately known as “Mathematical” during his playing days and now the proprietor of Eagle 7 103FM, described the awards as a laudable program that continues to improve with every edition. This year will mark his third time attending the ceremony, and he encouraged all sports lovers to support the initiative.
Joining the lineup of attendees is Ambassador Fanny Amun, the man famously dubbed the “transformer of talents” following his historic U-17 World Cup victory in Japan back in 1993. Amun, who was an award recipient in the previous edition, expressed great pride in being part of what he described as an iconic program. His presence further solidifies the event’s reputation as a top-tier gathering for those who have made significant contributions to the Nigerian sports landscape.
Reports has also confirmed that the 2026 Sportsville Awards will be presided over by a heavyweight in the media industry. Dr. Larry Izamoje, the respected sports journalist and founder of Brila FM, has been named the Chairman of the Occasion. With such a high-caliber leadership team and a roster of legendary guests, the upcoming ceremony in Lagos is set to be one of the most memorable sporting celebrations of the year.
