62 Days On, 42 Abducted Borno Pupils Still Missing

Zoyols News

Sixty two days after gunmen stormed Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Borno State and abducted dozens of pupils, families of the victims are still waiting for news about their children, with uncertainty continuing to deepen their pain.

The pupils, including very young children, were taken from their classrooms on May 15, 2026, during the attack on Mussa community in Askira Uba Local Government Area. Since then, none of the abductors has made contact with the families, no group has claimed responsibility for the incident, and no ransom demand has been reported.

One of the affected parents described the situation as heartbreaking, saying the emotional burden has been overwhelming for every family involved. According to the parent, sleepless nights have become the norm as they constantly worry about the safety and wellbeing of their children in captivity.

He explained that since the abduction, his wife and many other mothers have struggled to cope with the uncertainty, adding that the silence surrounding the incident has only increased their fears.

As the pupils remain missing more than two months after the attack, relatives continue to look to the government and security agencies for updates, hoping for reassuring news and the safe return of the children.

A source familiar with the matter disclosed that the Borno State Government has reached out to some of the affected families, assuring them that efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the pupils. The source said the families were encouraged to remain patient and avoid making unnecessary public comments, with assurances that they would be reunited with their children.

However, no details were provided about the rescue operation or whether security agencies had established communication with those behind the abduction.

When contacted for an update, the Borno State Commissioner for Education, Science and Innovation, Abba Lawan Wakilbe, declined to discuss the matter further. He maintained that the incident falls under security operations and advised that inquiries should be directed to the relevant security agencies.

According to the commissioner, he could not go beyond the information already available because the case is strictly a security matter.
