The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has voiced strong opposition against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following the controversial passage of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill by the National Assembly. In a sharp critique of the current political climate, the party suggested that the move is a direct threat to the country’s democratic foundations.
Bolaji Abdullahi, the spokesperson for the ADC, did not hold back in his assessment of the situation. Speaking on Wednesday via his social media handle, he expressed deep concern over what he described as a troubling level of impunity within the ruling party. He warned that if such actions are left unchecked, they could lead to the eventual collapse of Nigeria’s hard-earned democracy.
According to Abdullahi, there is a glaring contradiction in the APC’s current position. He pointed out that despite the party having the vast majority of state governors under its umbrella, there still seems to be a deep-seated fear of conducting truly free and fair elections. He questioned why a party with such a dominant presence would be apprehensive about a transparent electoral process.
Reports shows that the ADC spokesperson remains confident in the resilience of the Nigerian people. He noted that the country has faced similar attempts at political dominance in the past and has always found a way to push back. He emphasized that Nigerians are unlikely to surrender to any form of tyranny and will continue to demand accountability from those in power.
The statement serves as a stern reminder that the path to a stable democracy requires more than just political control; it requires a commitment to fairness that the ADC believes is currently lacking.
