It was a memorable evening in Abuja as government officials, diplomats, sports leaders, former internationals, and invited guests came together at the VIP Lounge of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium for a special Nigeria Poland football viewing event.

The gathering, which took place on Wednesday, was jointly organised by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Adeboye, and the Polish Embassy in Nigeria. The occasion was designed to celebrate both football and the growing relationship between the two countries.

Guests were treated to a lively atmosphere as Nigeria and Poland battled to a 2–2 draw in the international friendly, adding excitement to a night already filled with conversation, networking, and cultural exchange. Many in attendance described it as one of the standout sports diplomacy events held in Abuja this year.

The event attracted several high profile figures, including the Director General of the National Institute for Sports, Philip Shaibu, the Chief Executive of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority, Cornelius Adebayo, and the Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League, Gbenga Elegbeleye.

Also present were diplomats from various European Union countries as well as respected figures in Nigerian football such as Victor Ikpeba, Samson Siasia, and Waidi Akanni, who all added colour to the occasion with their presence.

Speaking after the programme, Hon. Adeyinka Adeboye described the evening as a success, stressing that it went beyond football to reflect friendship, unity, and international cooperation through sports. He noted that the energy and turnout showed the strong power of football in bringing people together regardless of background.

He further explained that the initiative supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, especially in the areas of youth engagement, sports development at the grassroots level, and strengthening international partnerships through cultural and sporting exchange.
