African golfers from across the continent will gather in Lagos from October 1 to 4 for the first Lakowe Lakes Golf Classic 2026. The tournament offers a $50,000 prize purse and a chance to earn world-ranking points.
The event will be held at Lakowe Lakes Golf and Country Estate and will be played over 54 holes. It forms part of the Sunshine Developmental Tour and is aimed at helping both emerging and established professionals gain competitive experience.
Top professional golfers will compete for the title and a share of the prize money. Leading amateurs have the added advantage of earning world-ranking points, giving Nigerian-based players the opportunity to compete in an international-standard event without travelling abroad.
The 2026 champion will also drive away with a brand-new GAC Wuling Bingo EV in addition to the prize money and title.
Femi Olagbenro, Golf Club Manager and Professional at Lakowe Lakes, described the tournament as a major step forward for golf in Nigeria. He said bringing a professional development tour to the club and giving players the chance to earn world-ranking points will help connect Nigerian golf with the wider African and international scene.
Olagbenro added that the event will raise the level of competition while boosting Nigeria’s reputation as a destination for high-quality golf.
