The MTN Nigeria Prestige Golf Classic has wrapped up its second edition in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, delivering a blend of competitive sport, networking, and premium customer engagement at the Port Harcourt Club Golf section.

The two day tournament opened with a welcome cocktail on Friday before the main competition teed off on Saturday morning, bringing together golfers from various clubs across the state and beyond. The event later rounded off with a dinner reception that hosted over one hundred guests, including business leaders and invited participants.

Emerging as the standout performer of the competition was Mrs Ochade Ajabor of the Rumuokwurushi Golf Club, who recorded an impressive total of forty three points to clinch the overall win. Her performance not only earned her top honours but also secured her a fully sponsored trip to attend the one hundred and fifty fourth Open at Royal Birkdale in Southport, United Kingdom later in the year.

Speaking at the event, MTN Nigeria’s General Manager for Regional Operations in the South South, Ifeanyi Udom, explained that the tournament was created as a way of connecting with customers through shared interests. He noted that golf provides a relaxed environment where business leaders and high value clients can network, interact, and sometimes even initiate meaningful partnerships outside formal office settings.

According to him, the competition also serves as a platform for MTN to showcase its products and services, giving customers direct access to innovations such as 5G connectivity, fibre solutions, and improved voice services. He added that the company remains committed to ensuring strong network quality across all its offerings while continuously improving customer experience.

Udom further described the Prestige Golf Classic as an initiative designed not only for recreation but also for engagement, allowing customers to experience MTN services while enjoying the game. He expressed optimism that future editions would continue to grow, building on the success of previous tournaments.

This year’s winner, Mrs Ajabor, described her victory as both surprising and rewarding. She explained that she participated mainly to relax and enjoy the game, but was thrilled to emerge as the overall champion. She expressed gratitude to MTN for the opportunity and the reward attached to her win, adding that the experience had been memorable from start to finish.

Ajabor also shared her excitement about the upcoming trip to watch the 154th Open at Royal Birkdale, noting that she looks forward to the experience. She credited consistency and enjoyment of the sport for her success, while emphasizing that golf remains for her a game of relaxation, friendship, and personal fulfilment beyond competition.
