Nigerian politician and social reform advocate Amb. Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo has formally resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to join the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
At a press briefing on Monday, November 10, Ajadi described his move as a strategic and patriotic step toward rebuilding Nigeria’s unity and restoring hope. He presented copies of his resignation letter, marking his official withdrawal from the NNPP and alignment with the PDP.
Addressed to various NNPP officials, including the Ward Chairman, the Obafemi Owode Local Government Chairman, the Ogun State NNPP Chairman, and the party’s national leadership, the letter outlined Ajadi’s reflection on Nigeria’s political landscape and his desire to work within a broader platform capable of driving meaningful national transformation.
“My decision to join the Peoples Democratic Party is both strategic and patriotic,” Ajadi stated. “I respect the NNPP and its ideals, but at this pivotal moment, the PDP offers a stronger platform for national reconciliation, youth empowerment, and authentic federalism.”
Ajadi, who was the NNPP governorship candidate in Ogun State in 2023 after stepping down as a presidential aspirant in support of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, emphasized that his defection stems from conviction, not conflict. “There is no bad blood between me and my former party. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served under its banner. But as Nigeria faces economic hardship, unemployment, and leadership challenges, it is time for like-minded patriots to unite and restore trust in governance,” he explained.
Political analysts have called Ajadi’s defection a significant realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, a period expected to reshape Nigeria’s political alliances.
Beyond politics, Ajadi is widely recognized for his humanitarian and youth development efforts. Through the Olufemi Ajadi Foundation, he has supported widows, artisans, and small-scale farmers across the South-West, North, and South of Nigeria, providing training, micro-grants, and other forms of empowerment. His campaigns have consistently promoted youth inclusion in governance, entrepreneurship, and peaceful coexistence among Nigeria’s diverse communities.
“Nigeria is at a crossroads,” Ajadi remarked. “We need leaders who listen to the people and act selflessly. I believe joining the PDP will strengthen the party at the grassroots level and revive hope among ordinary Nigerians.”
PDP officials in the South-West welcomed Ajadi’s arrival, highlighting his integrity, youth mobilization, and social impact as key assets that will enhance the party’s mission.
Reaffirming his commitment to national service, Ajadi pledged to work with PDP leaders at all levels to promote transparency, peace-building, and inclusive governance. “This is not merely about party politics,” he said. “It is about restoring Nigerians’ faith in democracy and ensuring they experience the real dividends of good governance.”
