Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have rescued 53 civilians after dismantling a roadblock set up by suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists along the Buratai Kamuya Road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
Goni gathered that the successful operation was carried out on Wednesday by personnel of the 135 Special Forces Battalion under Sector II of Operation HADIN KAI as part of ongoing military offensives against insurgents across the North East.
According to a statement issued on Friday in Maiduguri by the Acting Military Information Officer at the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, troops stationed at Dutse Kura detected the terrorists through surveillance cameras while they were setting up the illegal roadblock.
The discovery prompted the immediate deployment of a Quick Reaction Force to the location, leading to a swift military response.
Captain Goni said the troops pursued the fleeing insurgents towards the Mangari Dora general area, where they engaged them in a gun battle. The terrorists were eventually overpowered and forced to abandon their positions.
During the operation, the troops rescued 53 civilians who had been trapped by the attackers. They also recovered eight vehicles that had earlier been seized by the terrorists.
He added that the soldiers continued the operation by clearing the escape routes used by the insurgents and securing the surrounding areas. Although further searches were conducted, no additional contact was made with the fleeing terrorists.
The rescued civilians, recovered vehicles and other belongings were safely evacuated to Buratai, where the victims are currently undergoing documentation and medical assessment.
Captain Goni commended the troops for their swift response, describing the mission as another significant achievement in the military’s sustained efforts to restore peace and eliminate terrorist activities in the region.
He also appealed to residents within the Joint Operations Area to remain alert and continue providing useful information on suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.
According to him, the security situation in the area remains stable as troops continue to intensify offensive operations and maintain dominance across the theatre.
