Ambassador Aliyu Bin Abbas, founder of the National Youth Alliance, NYA, has secured the presidential ticket of the Action Democratic Party, ADP, ahead of the 2027 general election.
His emergence was confirmed in the early hours of Saturday during the party’s national convention held in Abuja, marking a significant moment for the political platform as it prepares for the next presidential contest.
According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, the final result was announced around 5:30 a.m., drawing enthusiastic reactions from delegates and supporters who gathered for the convention.
Following his victory, Abbas emphasized that his presidential ambition is entirely independent and should not be linked to any of his past political affiliations. Although he previously served as a political aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, he stressed that their political paths separated more than two years ago after both men adopted different political directions.
The statement further clarified that his candidacy is not a continuation of any previous political alliance or arrangement. Rather, it was described as a movement driven by the aspirations of young Nigerians seeking a new style of leadership focused on fresh ideas and independent decision making.
Speaking after receiving the party’s mandate, Abbas described his nomination as more than a personal achievement. According to him, it represents the rise of a new generation of leaders determined to pursue national renewal, economic growth, inclusive governance and greater opportunities for young people.
He noted that Nigeria has reached a crucial stage in its development and requires leaders capable of restoring hope, inspiring patriotism and mobilizing citizens toward meaningful progress.
Abbas also appealed to Nigerians from different ethnic, religious and political backgrounds to rally around a shared vision centered on justice, prosperity, unity and national development.
He expressed confidence that the country can chart a new course and build a stronger future through collective effort and responsible leadership. He added that details of his campaign agenda, policy direction and nationwide engagement plans would be unveiled in the coming months.
Earlier at the convention, the National Chairman of the ADP, Engr. Yabagi Yusuf Sani, praised delegates, party officials and supporters for their commitment to the growth of the party.
Sani said the ADP remains a credible alternative at a time when many Nigerians are facing economic difficulties, insecurity, unemployment and declining confidence in public institutions.
According to him, the nation requires leaders who view public office as a responsibility to serve the people rather than an opportunity for personal gain.
He reiterated the party’s commitment to service, competence, inclusion and national unity, while expressing confidence that the ADP can help create a country where citizens enjoy peace, dignity and equal opportunities for advancement.
The party chairman also stressed the need for transparency, accountability and internal democracy within political organizations. He maintained that political parties must uphold democratic values in their own affairs if they expect Nigerians to trust them with the responsibility of governance.
