Former Minister of Transportation and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress presidential primary election, describing the exercise as deeply flawed and unfair.
Amaechi, in a statement shared on his X account shortly after the primaries held on Tuesday, claimed the process was marred by widespread voter disenfranchisement and several irregularities across different parts of the country. According to him, the results announced by the party did not reflect the true outcome of the exercise.
He maintained that the figures released by the party were “concocted” and insisted he could not accept results produced through a process that lacked transparency and credibility.
The former governor said he had made his position clear before the primaries, stressing that he would only recognise the outcome if the election was conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner. He added that the events that unfolded during the exercise fell short of those standards.
Amaechi also accused the leadership of the African Democratic Congress of abandoning the principles the party claimed to stand for in its promise to offer Nigerians a credible alternative political platform.
His reaction has further stirred conversations within the party as members and supporters continue to debate the credibility of the presidential primary process.
