Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has welcomed the reported rescue of 360 people abducted by terrorists in Ngoshe, Borno State, while urging the Federal Government to step up efforts to free other Nigerians still in captivity.
In a statement shared on his X account on Monday, Atiku said the development brought relief to the victims and their families who had spent months in anxiety following the March abduction.
He described the rescue as a positive outcome, noting that it had ended a painful period for those affected, even as he stressed that the country still faces ongoing security challenges linked to terrorism and banditry.
Atiku also commended the military and other security agencies involved in the operation, praising their commitment to ensuring the safe return of the abducted persons.
He expressed confidence that with the right support, equipment and strong political will, Nigeria’s armed forces have the capacity to bring lasting stability and end the long running insurgency.
Despite celebrating the rescue, the former vice president called on authorities not to slow down, urging intensified efforts to secure the release of other victims still held by armed groups, including school children and teachers abducted in parts of Oyo and Borno States.
He further emphasized the need for a stronger and more proactive security system built on intelligence gathering, modern technology and preventive action to stop attacks before they happen.
Zoyols News reports that Atiku maintained that a full review of the country’s security structure remains necessary to address the persistent threat of terrorism and improve national safety.
