Audu Maikori, the founder and chairman of Chocolate City Entertainment Group, has come forward with heavy allegations against the former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai. Speaking during a recent television interview monitored by Reports, Maikori detailed a turbulent period where he claims he was not just prosecuted, but actively persecuted by the state government over a social media post.
The dispute stems from a tweet Maikori had posted, which he later discovered was inaccurate and promptly deleted. Despite acknowledging the error, Maikori alleges that El-Rufai’s response was disproportionate and personal. He claimed the former governor went as far as organizing for him to be abducted, rather than following standard legal or police procedures.
According to Maikori, the situation escalated even after he took responsibility for the mistake. He explained that his driver had confessed to providing him with the false information that led to the tweet. However, Maikori told Reports that the state’s reaction felt like a targeted campaign. He argued that a sitting governor should not be doing the job of the police or using state power to settle personal scores over a retracted statement.
The entertainment mogul further alleged that even after the police had initially released him, there were attempts to link his social media activity to much more serious crimes. He claimed that El-Rufai tried to connect his tweet to the deaths of seven people in an effort to further implicate him. Maikori insisted that these actions were clear signs of a personal vendetta rather than a search for justice.
These claims come at a particularly difficult time for the former governor. As previously reported by Reports, Nasir El-Rufai is currently being held in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. While Maikori speaks on past grievances regarding civil liberties, the former governor is now facing intense questioning over significant financial allegations related to his time in office.
