Nigerian comedian and filmmaker Ayo Makun, widely known as AY, has shared a touching voice note recorded by the late actor, Alex Ekubo, before his passing.
The comedian explained that his decision to release the recording was not to attract sympathy but to encourage people who may be silently facing personal struggles. He said the message serves as a reminder that no matter how difficult life becomes, there is always hope for a better tomorrow.
His post came a day after the late actor was laid to rest in his hometown in an emotional ceremony attended by family, friends and several figures from Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
Among those present to pay their final respects were IK Ogbonna, Mike Godson, Omoni Oboli, Ini Edo, KCee, E Money, Cubana Chief Priest, Bimbo Ademoye, Kunle Remi and his wife, Nancy Isime, Funny Bone, Pretty Mike, Yomi Casual and many others.
Reflecting on the late actor’s final words, AY said life often presents moments that feel lonely, unfair and overwhelming, but people should never lose hope as long as they are alive.
He urged those who listened to the recording to see it as more than just a voice message, describing it as a heartfelt reminder from someone who wanted others to remain strong and keep moving forward despite life’s challenges.
AY prayed that the late actor’s words would continue to inspire, encourage and strengthen everyone who hears them, adding that although Alex Ekubo’s voice may have fallen silent, the message he left behind will continue to live on.
Zoyols News recalls that news of the actor’s death emerged last month after he reportedly passed away on Monday, May 11, at the age of 40 following a battle with cancer.
In a statement released at the time, his family disclosed that he died at Evercare Hospital after a brief but courageous fight with advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
Before his burial, a Service of Songs was held in his honour on Wednesday, June 10, at the Monarch Event Centre in Lekki. The event attracted numerous colleagues and friends from the entertainment industry, who gathered to celebrate his life and legacy.
