Entertainment entrepreneur and founder of Diaspora Ball, Ayo Magbagbeola, popularly known as Ayo Entity, has been named the African Global Entertainment Icon of the Year 2026 by the African Global Excellence Awards (AGEA).
The recognition highlights his growing impact on Africa’s entertainment, lifestyle and cultural landscape, particularly through Diaspora Ball, an annual event that has steadily become part of the Detty December social calendar.
Since its launch, the event has provided a platform where entertainers, entrepreneurs, fashion personalities, influencers and members of the African diaspora can connect, network and celebrate African culture. It has also combined entertainment with opportunities for meaningful social and cultural exchange.
According to AGEA convener, Victor Udoh, Ayo Entity’s work represents a wider vision of using entertainment to strengthen connections between Africans on the continent and those living abroad.
Udoh noted that his efforts have contributed to giving African creativity greater visibility while also creating conversations around tourism, investment and stronger cultural ties between Africans at home and in the diaspora.
Ayo Entity is expected to formally receive the honour at the 2026 African Global Excellence Awards scheduled for October 31 at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Alausa, Ikeja.
Meanwhile, preparations are already underway for the second edition of Diaspora Ball, which is scheduled to take place in December at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The event is expected to add to the growing line up of entertainment and social activities that traditionally accompany the festive season in Lagos.
