Nigerian comedian, actor and filmmaker Basketmouth has shared a heartfelt message highlighting the importance of gratitude, urging people to appreciate the simple blessings they often overlook.
Taking to his Instagram story, the entertainer encouraged people to be more thankful to God, stressing that waking up each day healthy and alive is a privilege many others do not have. According to him, life’s disappointments, whether it is a missed deadline, a denied promotion, the loss of a job, or a broken down vehicle, should not overshadow the value of good health and life itself.
Basketmouth noted that as long as a person is alive and physically well, they still possess something truly priceless. He emphasized that many people take their health and bodily functions for granted until they are faced with challenges that make everyday activities difficult.
Reflecting on this, he pointed out that being able to move and use every part of the body without pain or discomfort is a blessing that deserves appreciation. He added that people often fail to recognize the worth of what they have until it is no longer available to them.
Injecting his trademark humour into the message, the comedian joked that anyone who has ever suffered boils on both sides of their buttocks would understand how valuable something as ordinary as sitting comfortably can be. According to him, situations like that quickly remind people that even the simplest abilities are blessings.
His latest remarks come just days after he criticized society’s growing tendency to amplify failure while rewarding mediocrity. Basketmouth observed that negativity often dominates public conversations, while genuine achievements and excellence receive little attention. He argued that scandals can remain in the spotlight for days, whereas meaningful accomplishments rarely attract the same level of interest.
The father of three has also spoken openly about his experiences in the film industry. Sharing insights from his journey as a filmmaker, he highlighted the importance of proper funding and responsible management of movie budgets. He recalled raising ₦300 million for a film project within twenty four hours, describing it as proof that determination and credibility can open doors. He also cautioned against the habit of diverting production funds to personal expenses, a practice he believes hurts the growth of the industry.
Over the years, Basketmouth has built a successful career in entertainment, transitioning from stand up comedy into filmmaking, where he has produced and starred in several projects of his own.
His comments echo concerns previously raised by other public figures. Actor IK Ogbonna had called for greater accountability on social media, lamenting a culture where substance is often ignored while reckless behaviour attracts attention and praise.
Similarly, actress Mary Njoku questioned whether the current generation is still focused on what truly matters. She expressed concern about the amount of distraction and trivial content competing for public attention, wondering if people have gradually chosen noise over purpose.
Comedian Ayo Makun also weighed in on the influence of social media, warning that public opinion often rewards statements that appeal to the crowd while punishing those who offer unpopular but truthful perspectives.
