Bella Sues Sheggz Over Alleged Attempted Murder, Seeks N500m

Zoyols News

Big Brother Naija star Bella Okagbue has taken her former partner, Sheggz Olusemo, to court over alleged attempted murder, among other claims.

Court papers circulating online show that Bella, through her lawyers, accused Sheggz of torture, attempted murder, and breaking a promise to marry her. Her legal team is seeking N2.5 billion in damages, saying she endured repeated verbal attacks and emotional, physical and mental abuse, including an alleged attempt on her life by strangulation.

The lawyers said Sheggz assaulted Bella in October 2023, locked her in his house and would not let her leave. They pointed to a message she sent his mother, asking her to tell her son to allow her go home, and adding that she had been disrespected enough.

They also cited later conversations, dated November 2025, in which Bella spoke of fear over alleged threats to kill her and repeated strangling. On that basis she is claiming N19.826 million and £10,237, N500 million for the broken promise of marriage, and N2 billion for physical, emotional and psychological harm. Sheggz has been given three days to comply or face further legal steps.

Last month Sheggz sued Bella for defamation after she alleged he owed her money. Bella rejected those claims. Her lawyers said he obtained several loans from her under false pretences and that they would take the matter to a proper court. They also alleged deceit over marriage and a misrepresentation of his intentions.

Sheggz’s lawyers have produced financial records to answer some of the accusations. They said he was the main provider during the relationship, while accepting that Bella earned her own money and contributed as well. On the failed marriage plan, he said he had truly believed they would wed, but constant arguments wore the relationship down. He added that involvement by Bella’s sister and mother left him reluctant to go through with the wedding.
